The other day, I got a text from one of my besties that said, “Meredith, whatever happened to Farmhouse Friday?!?!” I replied: hashtag life.
But, we’re back with our second installment of Farmhouse Friday, and I’m trying my best to share some Farmhouse Inspiration with you guys! Today we are going to tackle the exterior…
We thought long and hard about our exterior design choices… but even so, there are a few things I would have changed! I will list all the selections below, but will highlight a few here…
COLOR: We decided to go with the Joanna Gaines Farmhouse color: Sherwin Williams Alabaster White. We tested 6 or 7 white colors and drive by at different times of day to see them, but ultimately landed on Alabaster because I wouldn’t have it any other way. Ha!
MATERIAL: You may also notice a mix of both hardie plank siding and board and batten. We thought about both, loved both, and just decided to mix them in the end. This is one of those home building decisions I wouldn’t stress about nearly as much… it’s so hard to tell the difference from afar!
ROOFING: We chose to mix metal roofing with a traditional shingle roof, simply for cost. If we could afford it, we would have loved to do the entire roof as a metal roof, but it just did not make sense, financially. We went with a charcoal shingle, and I believe the metal color is called charcoal too, but it’s a bit lighter.
BRICK SKIRT: We have red brick foundation, which I LOVE, and this was an “upgrade” from the standard block foundation. Next time I want to use white mortar… if you’ve been brick shopping or looking, then you know what I mean!
GARAGE DOORS: We bought white (cheap) garage doors, and totally went Pinterest crazy on them, with our very own gel stain project to make them look like wood. I hope I’ve tricked you and that you thought they were real wood! But hooray! They aren’t. I was scared to death to tackle this project, but knew I would regret not trying, and I’m so happy with how they turned out!
And one last interesting design decision we made was the gutters. We went with a super dark gutter and I seriously LOVE it!
